Too bad @jimmybuffett used "Party at the End of the World" in 2006. Sounds like the perfect tour name for 2012.

Episode 140: We Go to ’11

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, January 12 2011 (10:00 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“For the first show of 2011, we look at the top stories of 2010 and the concert roundup is from Portland. (Special guest: Michele. Cameos by Jennifer and Lee.)

00:21 - unfortunately I cannot find this cell phone commercial anywhere online (and can’t even remember what company it was for).
02:28 - since the purpose of these entries is to share behind-the-scenes information, I might as well go ahead and admit her name is ████.
06:33 - I’ve completely forgotten the story behind this, but Scott was referred to as “cherubic” by someone some time before recording, to Schmoe’s great delight
09:28 - I guess you could say I tangentially got something Buffetty for Christmas.  I bought myself the John Lennon Signature Box, which includes Robert Greenidge playing on “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)”. (A connection I had planned to make during our John Lennon episode but, once again, forgot to do.)
09:36 - for Christmas, Mike bought all the podcast guys a bottle of M’ville spiced rum
11:43 - Scott’s sound file got accidentally deleted; and this potion was all I was able to restore off the SD card, using some newly bought recovery software.
13:36 - at the time, I was assuming our opening blather would not make the show
    13:40 - Ticket Web
14:38 - “Land Shark Bar & Grille to open May 2011 in Myrtle Beach” from Buffett News | “Land Shark Bar & Grill Coming to Myrtle Beach” from Buffett World
15:30 - Jimmy on the Today show
16:29 - “Hollywood Beach Margaritaville Resort gets approval”, from Buffett News
16:56 - “Margaritaville Eyewear Available Now, from Buffett World
18:20 - “Sail On, Jay Spell”, from Buffett News
    19:06 - Tour Dates, at M’ville.com
19:46 - Welcome to Fin Land artwork
20:46 - Monty Python’s remastered Contractual Obligation Album and Spamalot CDs, from Amazon
22:04 - no surprise, there is a 1-800-ASK-GARY website, but that still wouldn’t stop me from teasing Schmoe
24:20 - Jimmy is referring to a pre-show interview, not a concert itself
27:03 - a couple highlights that didn’t make the montage are the return of “Rhumba Man” and a beautiful medley of “Cowboy in the Jungle” and “Banana Republics”
33:04 - DOM Coon let us know “Margaritaville Casino may be coming to Biloxi after all” and “New Margaritaville Casino plans are moving forward
34:16 - “Buffett Ukulele Songbook Released”, from Buffett News
    35:12 - Buffett World’s “Year in Review” for 2010
36:45 - the 30 Rock sound clip is at the end of Episode 120
38:06 - Jimmy’s South Park clip was included in Episode 126 (with screen-grabs in the blog)
38:51 - audio from the Late Show Top 10 was included at the end of Episode 128. Plus there was this reference included in the blog
41:05 - as evidence, the concert roundup in Episode 137
    41:21 - Nothing But Monkeys
41:58 - from the TNT series’ tenth episode, the season finale, “I Want To Be Free”
47:41 - download our theme song from iTunes (US) and Amazon.com
52:24 - music is “In My Canoe”, performed by The Beau Hunks [iTunes (US) link]

Episode 139: Happy Crimble

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, December 8 2010 (10:00 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“Scott, Mickey, Mike, and Schmoe review Peter Mayer’s Goodbye Hello album, only about thirteen months after its release; and the concert roundup is from the October 16 Mountain View CA show.  (Cameo by Jennifer.)

01:18 - sorry about talking with my mouth full; I was finishing off the pizza.
01:48 - audio taken from one of the many versions on YouTube
03:05 - “Behind Cosell’s Announcement of Lennon’s Death, from New York Times
06:40 - Double Fantasy was released on November 17 1980 (US)
07:27 - Scott is reading from “Death of John Lennon” on Wikipedia
07:53 - John Lennon: The Life by Philip Norman [Amazon link]
08:28 - Hud used to drive me (and Mike’s sister) to high school
09:32 - Peter Mayer’s Goodbye Hello [Little Flock Music link]
11:02 - “Photos from Jimmy’s Appearance in Nashville”, at Buffett World
11:14 - “Videos from Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Gala”, at Buffett News
11:27 - setlist for the Andy Roddick Foundation gala, from Buffett News
11:37 - “Use Me” clip at YouTube, via Buffett News
11:50 - “Videos of Jimmy with Allen Toussaint at NOAAHH”, at Buffett News.  Jimmy’s third appearance was a private show in Houston for American Express platinum cardholders.
12:28 - “Jimmy Buffett Announces Australia Concerts on Today Show”, at Buffett World
    14:02 - Outsourced, at NBC.com
14:57 - refers to a U of M football Top Ten List in the Detroit Free Press and its “One Particular Harbaugh” listing.  For more information on Jim Harbaugh, e-mail Schmoe.  You’ll learn more than you ever wanted to know about University of Michigan football coaching.
15:34 -  Mike’s shopping suggestion: the cordless Frozen Concoction Maker on sale at Buy.com
    17:01 - our 2009 Christmas wishlist
17:26 - my insistence in making fun of Schmoe had me taking a clip from the end of the recording and jamming it here, hence the difference in sound
18:02 - unfortunately I failed to record this concert — the only one I missed this year — and had to use SunLover‘s MP3s from Buffett News.  Note: there was no pre-show interview this night, Jimmy and Mac played through what would’ve been the intermission, and apparently Jimmy’s cold was why he sang “Margaritaville” so badly.
28:01 - specifically, Coverville #723 The 7th Annual Thanksgiving Double-Shot Beatles Cover Story
30:40 - hey! Scott set off a new alarm!
32:09 - “Shoot me” is what John Lennon repeats during the beginning of “Come Together”
34:17 - The Beatles remastered box set at Amazon: stereo and mono
36:20 - pistoning the forearm, much like the Irish Drinking Songs seen here
    35:51 - St Mary’s in Rockwood MI
37:30 - Michele, by complete coincidence, will show up in Episode 140
38:12 - I seriously have no idea why I’m saying “frenchified” so much.  I don’t know what came over me.
38:49 - an inside joke.  Schmoe completed the Detroit marathon (as almost seen here) on October 18; Mike ran the half-marathon, and we won’t let him forget it.
44:40 - Nadirah Shakoor’s Nod to the Storyteller, which we reviewed in Episode 94
57:12 - Faygo Pop, a local pop company.  [Warning: page loads with music.]
58:27 - get the “Love Theme from Wastin’ Away on the North Coast” at iTunes (US) and Amazon.com

Mexican Moonshine

Scott just had his first shot of Roger Clyne’s Mexican Moonshine, just arrived direct from Arizona by way of Ohio.

Scott’s report: “Mmm.  Good.”

It’s surreal, sublime, man-made, and divine
    It’s the moonshine….

Episode 137: Sacked!

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, October 20 2010 (9:30 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“The boys review Zac Brown Band’s You Get What You Give, recap the Chicago and Jones Beach concerts, and discuss the recent RCPM show in Lansing.  (Cameos by Dino, Lee, and assorted FSGL’ers.  The Roger Clyne podcast starts at 59:12.)

Apologies for the delay.  Thursday and Saturday were busier than expected at the old production house.
Chad Heckler and Jim Dalton’s performance of “Hellbound Party Train” can be heard here.

Episode 136: Mustard & Ketchup

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, September 22 2010 (9:30 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“It’s our last podcast of the Summer.  And it might sound like a rerun since we talk about album covers again, but it’s not.  Really.  And anyway there are two concert roundups too (Camden and Pittsburgh).  (Guest appearance by Joe Maj.  Cameos by Jennifer.)

02:23 - the You Get What You Give Deluxe Editions from iTunes, Amazon, Target, Walmart, and the official site
04:17 - “Jimmy Buffett visits campus”, from The Student Printz
04:42 - “Trump Marina Hotel deal in Atlantic City off again”, from Buffet News | “Margaritaville Casino in Atlantic City now ‘Out of the Picture’”, from Buffett World
06:01 - Robert Greenidge’s A Coral Reefer Christmas, to be released on October 26 and available for pre-order
    06:10 - see 7:18
07:18 - concert montage from Tuesday, August 10; the second show of the fourth leg of the tour, and the second of two shows from Camden NJ
19:46 - hear that, Mike?  I bet Jimmy played that final chord just for you.
21:22 - I meant to repeat how I’m always giving License to Chill short shrift by always forgetting about it –- and, ironically, it slipped my mind!
23:20 - yes, I admit it, despite Schmoe’s admonition to ignore songs performed live, we still based our selections on concert setlists
    24:52 - reviewed in Episode 104
    27:15 - already covered in Episode 10
28:23 - Margaritaville Orlando has a cool t-shirt based on the Changes cover: Buy it here | View it here
31:51 - all this was previously discussed in Episode 10, including my photo of the original Feeding Frenzy packaging
33:33 - it appears the Songs You Know By Heart MasterDisc is out of print, so here’s the album cover just to prove my point (and to show all you youngsters what you’ve been missing):

Hey, MCA! THIS should be the cover!

38:45 - concert montage from Thursday, August 12, at Pittsburgh, the second to last show of the fourth leg of the 2010 tour
45:13 - transmission problems caused us to miss a song, to lose the beginning of “Volcano”, and for the rest of the concert to be broadcast in mono
50:21 - the “hillbilly shit” comment actually followed “Gypsies in the Palace”
