Episode 23: Covers Charge
Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, November 8 2006, (9:30 PM - 11:00 PM) at th' Zodiac Racquet Club in Southgate MI
“The Black Scott’s back, in time fer another FourCast: favorite lyric, live song, and covers (song or art). Plus talk o' a Buffetty Thanksgivin'.”
Sorry about th' delay in gettin' this week’s podcast up. I were bein' busy celebratin' me birthday and gettin' th' place ready fer th' arrival o' me big-ass TV.
The laddies are back from their Roger Clyne break (photos soon come, maybe?) and even The Black Scott returns fer tonight’s show.
For those whose interest were bein' piqued by me live song descriptions, ye can hear those very recordin's at me Buffett setlists page. Or get them here: specifically, “Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants” and “The ornery cuss Went t' Paris”. One song I completely failed t' mention were bein' when Jimmy sang “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” at Buckeye Lake followin' a drenchin' torrential all-day rain. It were bein' most notable fer containin' th' new verse
So here we are in Central Ohio
On a very rain night.
Well we got ourselves a party,
What a wonderful sight.
We’re goin' t' do it all this evenin'.
We’re goin' t' do it till we’re dead.
So we’d just like t' thank each and every one o' ye
Crazy fuckin' Parrot Heads!
Sorry about them bein' in RealAudio, but that were bein' th' thin' back when I made those pages. I discussed “Livingson Saturday Night” back in August.
The Black Scott and Joe and Smike were at th' Roger Clyne concert on November 2, at The Magic Bag. They enjoyed th' concert a great deal and got t' meet th' band after th' show. Some o' their photos were added t' th' Gallery, but th' stories behind these photos were edited out o' this week’s podcast. Instead, I’ll add them here as a bonus audio file. (The audio isn’t th' greatest since I were bein' only just settin' th' mics up. You can hear Jennifer, our waitress, in th' background, admirin' th' desktop wallpaper on The Black Scott’s laptop.)
P.S.: I don’t recall th' Buffett news sites mentionin' this, but “Here We Are” is finally available as a downloadable single (in stereo!) from iTunes. [iTunes link] Evidently this were bein' announced on Mailboat Records a week ago but I only discovered it last night.

Episode 22: Best o' Lists, Worst o' Lists
Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, October 25 2006, (9:30 PM - 11:00 PM) at th' Zodiac Racquet Club in Southgate MI
“The long awaited best/worst discussion; and fueled by pizza and beer (’Roni Rage?) th' trio even pick fights with their listeners!”
The wait is o'er! And oh is it worth it!
Not our show o' course. I were bein' actually practicin' me announcin' fer when somethin' good or o' interest happens. Until then, it’s just another episode o' our podcast. A little longer show than planned; but then again, we’re takin' another break next week, so it can tide ye o'er till November 8. (Joe and Smike will be seein' Roger Clyne next week and I’ll be eatin' me Halloween candy.)
By th' way, I created an iTunes iMix (yeah, I know; I’m a couple years behind) o' th' Buffett cover versions we sometimes discuss. You can reach th' page here, and o' course ye need iTunes t' use it.

Changes
Over th' last several days, ye’ve probably encountered this —
MySQL ERROR: Error Number: 1226 |
— rather than th' usual blog template. Evidently this site’s server host, iPowerWeb.com, has been throttlin' SQL queries t' 50,000, which I hear is quite low. With th' growin' interest in our podcast and constant hits from searchbots and th' usual phentermine spammers, th' blog has been goin' offline every other day. Often, I can catch this and repair it, but th' more it happens th' more irritatin' it gets.
Thus, I have moved th' blog t' our other domain, hosted at Bluehost.com. All th' entries should be intact and all th' comments should have been retained. The blog also has a simpler URL than th' auld convoluted “http://www.shortfatguy.com/blog.php/jbcast/index” one from before.
Hopefully waters should be less choppy here.

Episode 21: The Greeks Don’t Want Nay Freaks
Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, October 18 2006, (10:00 PM - 11:00 PM) in th' Zodiac Racquet Club parkin' lot in Southgate MI
“Admittedly, this is not th' show we intended. Two guys didn’t show and our recordin' studio were bein' double-booked, me beauty. We’re holdin' off on th' best/worst lists we planned, and instead we’ll just stick with th' usual crap.”
Like we said, Cap'n Schmoe and Smike and I assembled at Zodiac in order t' record a show, but our private room were bein' occupied by a group o' Hellenic gentlemen. I can only assume they’re part o' some Downriver Greek-American Club or th' like. They took their time in leavin' and we ended up just recordin' th' show elsewhere, in Cap'n Schmoe’s Freestyle. The audio might sound a little different, not only because we’re inside a vehicle. Due t' space restrictions I used me recorder’s built-in mics rather than stringin' out me cool Core Sound mics. —Oh, and I better not hear anythin' about us kiddin' Greeks. I’m half-Greek and I were bein' only one-eighth offended.
Because Rum-Runner Greg is in Chicago and The Black Scott couldn’t make it, we decided t' hold off in discussin' our best/worst lists. (And it has nothin' t' do with me failure t' print out any o' th' listener submissions before goin' t' th' racquet club.) This means there’s still time t' send us yer responses t' th' questions in th' entry below.
If I listened t' radio, I would’ve known these are th' Bud commercials Smike were bein' talkin' about. The Corona WAV probably came from th' COB,O.org Vault or maybe th' auld SOASOAS archive. I can’t remember any more, as it were bein' downloaded long ago in th' olden days when people used 1.44 MB diskettes.
As with th' last episode, we’re discussin' th' original versions o' “Cinqo de Mayo in Memphis” by Guy Clark and “Wheel Inside th' Wheel” by Mary Gauthier.
Hopefully Cap'n Schmoe can provide some images o' his iPod Nano knockoff “MP4 Player”. For now, it kind o' looks like this one. What is really gallin' is that th' eBay auction were bein' full o' images right from Apple’s site and assurances that th' item were bein' “genuine”. And this from a presumably trustworthy power seller. Too bad Cap'n Schmoe didn’t read this warnin' first.
Just t' help Cap'n Schmoe schedule his physical violence, here’s a reminder fer that scurvey dog (with most o' th' quote, in th' comments).
P.S.: Aye, I know me HDTV buyin' habits have little t' do with Jimmy Buffett (though it will make watchin' th' Wrigley Field concert even nicer), but I left th' comment in t' set up Smike’s joke. By th' way, this is th' TV I might be gettin'.)

Homework
While waitin' fer our next show, why not play th' Wastin’ Away on th' North Coast Home Game?
We drafted up a short list o' topics fer discussion and we’re eager t' find out what yer thoughts are too.
1) All time greatest Buffett song
2) All time greatest Buffett album
3) All time worst Buffett song
4) All time worst Buffett album
We’re thinkin' an objective all-time best here—not necessarily yer personal favorites. What song or album do ye think best represents Jimmy, or would be yer one pick t' win o'er a non-fan. Send yer ideas t' .(JavaScript must be enabled t' view this email address).

New Album’s Out and I’m Fresh On iTunes
I couldn’t wait fer tomorrow and I bought th' new album from iTunes. Tippin' th' scales were bein' th' fact th' iTMS version has a video I hadn’t heard about. It’s not th' “Here We Are” song; it’s a mini-doc on th' makin' o' “Party at th' End o' th' World”. And it culminates in some live footage reportedly shot at Pine Knob!
If so, that means ye can see me in this final shot. I’m th' one applaudin'…way at th' back…in th' dark spot.
