Episode 132B: My Documents

Show Notes:
“Mickey’s not giving up yet. He’s got two more concert roundups, to round out the third leg of the tour, plus last week’s Fruitcake on the Radio, and Munchcast’s discussion of margaritas and ‘Margaritaville’.

05:39 – not only was it cool to hear Jimmy “Mackinac Island” –- my favorite island –- but he pronounced it correctly too!
    05:44 – “Kalama-zoo-zoo-zoo” is, I suppose, a reference to Glenn Miller’s recording of “I Got a Gal in Kalamazoo”
08:15 – the Jimmy/Bret Michaels duet was released as an iTunes single on July 13.
09:43 – Jimmy and Mike have gotten a LOT of mileage out of this material over the years
14:05 – left in because Jimmy got the album wrong
    16:41Episode 130
16:55 – Fruitcake on the Radio Steve Ross from Bloomfield Hills MI
17:58 – Munchcast #85, with Leo Laporte and Cammy Blackstone. Visit the website, listen to the episode, or watch the episode.
29:20 – and you thought we rambled and were unprepared!

Episode 132A: My Documents

Show Notes:
“Mickey hijacks the podcast to share files off his hard drive. Includes three concert roundups, some audio interviews, and the rest of our post-concert parking lot roundtable from Pine Knob. (Cameos by Patti, Scott, Mike, and Jacob.)

I know, I know. It’s time we got back to podcasting…
At 27:10, that’s not an edit, that’s Jimmy jumping the gun.
And at 29:04, those false starts were part of the concert.
    31:20 – Anderson Cooper’s interview with Jimmy Buffett: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 (from CNN.com)
Jimmy ruffled a few feathers after an interview with the Associated Press. Said Jimmy, “To me it was more about eight years of bad policy before [Obama] got there that let this happen. It was Dracula running the blood bank in terms of oil and leases.” The hosts of Fox & Friends were outraged that Jimmy called George W Bush a “Dracula”, even though Jimmy didn’t, and I’m not even sure what they think it means. We tried to bring this up during our recordings but we couldn’t muster the ire that seems to come so readily to the folks at Fox News.
37:48 – “Video Interview with Jimmy”, via Buffett World
43:44 – you can hear Jimmy’s comments about the brassiere at the beginning of the next episode

0:58:57 – every second set started with “Everybody’s on the Phone”, except for the two Mansfield shows immediately prior to ours
1:03:14my best photo of the braless “Cheeseburger” lady, from our Photo Gallery. (She’s in the white top and black skirt, passing the guy in the orange t-shirt.)

1:18:49another link to the “Alpine Valley” screen grab
1:20:17 – well, no: he did “Bank of Bad Habits” in this spot in the very first “Under the Big Top” concert. Also in this spot, they played “Brown Eyed Girl”, “USS Zydecoldsmobile”, “Fruitcakes”, and (anticipating my statement at 1:21:06) “Fins”.
1:21:01 – “Fins” was the first encore song of our 2006 concert
1:21:06 – a truer statement than with “Last Man Standing” as it turns out. “Fins” was the second to last song for every concert except Nashville’s (Sunday, May 1 2010), as mentioned above.
1:21:18 – as proof, here’s another show notes exclusive: my video between “Fins” and “Tin Cup Chalice”

Rock of M’Ville

There were rumors in the parking lot that Bret Michaels had shown up in a limo and would be guesting onstage. Amazingly, Michaels actually did show up on stage, singing with Jimmy on “Margaritaville”. I tried to record the whole thing, but the best my iPhone 3G can shoot is at best about 6 frames a second. (Figures the brand new iPhone 4 can shoot in 720p, but wouldn’t be released till two days later). Luckily the “Margarillas” shot the song right from the stage and shared the video on Facebook and YouTube. The funny thing is the camera is facing our section of the crowd. If you look close enough (and you know whom to look for), you can spot me, Mike, and Mike’s sister and brother-in-law.

Update [6/30]: another video of this event has been posted, this time on Margaritaville.com’s Coconut Television page (found via Buffett World). Don’t mind that “Bret Michaels sings Margaritaville at Alpine Valley” caption; it’s still Pine Knob on Tuesday. (Also available in the Margaritaville and Bret Michaels channels on YouTube channel, but in a 4×3 square. Resized to a proper 16×9 here…)

News From the Front

Back home from another great Buffett show at Pine Knob. Here are a few images from our amazing Row A seats. I shot some video too but the quality is quite poor (my phone is two years old); I at least used it for the freeze-frames of Bret Michaels surprise duet on “Margaritaville” and when Jimmy came by us at the end of the show. The pictures have been upload to our Photo Gallery, or you can also check them out at my Flickr page or my Mobile Me gallery.

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, June 16 2010 (9:30 PM – 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“The boys talk about the recent Detroit River Parrothead Cruise, discuss the latest Buffett headlines, go through the Cincinnati and Houston shows, and look forward to the upcoming Pine Knob concert (less than a week!). (Special guest: Jennifer. Cameo by Scott.)

00:04 – we spent a lot of time talking about TV shows — including Firefly, which I’d finally talked Mike into getting on Blu-ray
01:49Pier 500 in Wyandotte | Diamond Jack’s River Tours | Jim Auquier on Facebook
05:49 – all the Buffett and Buffett-related songs are in our cruise video, with the exception of “Brown Eyed Girl” (since it really was more like Van Morrison’s arrangement) and “Come Monday” (since I was running out of videotape). I managed to get audio of the final song, “Lovely Cruise”, on my cellphone, but it was so over-modulated I only used a snippet in the video.
